Savona Restaurant Review

Looking for a new place to get lunch with friends on a half day? A chic new restaurant, Savona, located on the corner of Chase and Popham, has recently opened. This restaurant might be on the pricier side for high schools students, but the food is undoubtedly worth every penny.

Upon entrance, the modern decor stood out; the lights and furniture created a sophisticated atmosphere, and overall, gave off a sense of comfortable elegance. Lunch was a great time for me to eat at the restaurant, as there was no wait for a table and the waiters were very attentive. They immediately served me a large glass of water and provided a plate of olive oil and homemade bread, which was warm from the oven.

The menus could have been a bit clearer; some of the dishes listed the ingredients, while others had me wondering what the meal really consisted of. Savona offers numerous types of fruits and cheeses for their appetizers, three or four options for salads, appetizers, sandwiches and paninis, pastas, pizzas, and other European style entrees. When inquiring about a certain dish, I learned that in addition to the homemade bread made every day, Savona also makes their own pasta and chips right in their kitchen.

I eventually settled on a dish of homemade pasta, pesto, tomatoes, potatoes, and garlic ($17).  I could not have asked for a better meal; the dish was exquisite. The pasta was cooked perfectly, the pesto sauce had a unique creaminess to it, and the tomatoes, potatoes, and garlic each added a flavor of their own.

My friends who joined me for lunch ordered a panini. It consisted of homemade bread, tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil, and it came with a side of homemade chips ($12). Similarly, my friend could not have enjoyed her sandwich more. The bread was crisp, the cheese was creamy, and overall, the sandwich was nice and light. The portion sizes were on the larger side, leaving us with leftovers to take home.

I enjoyed my lunch at Savona. When it comes to price, the fact that the restaurant makes a lot of their own food makes the slightly expensive dishes seem reasonable. The next time a half day rolls around or if you have some spare time during your weekend and want an upscale restaurant with superb food and friendly servers, be sure to check out Savona.
