Daily Photo and Poll: Addiction Assembly

Tim Rader talks to students about his struggle with prescription drug addiction and his ultimate recovery thanks to the Caron alcohol and drug rehab center.
As a teenager, I had everything at my fingertips. I was doing well in school and had been hoping to play college football. I was going places. A bout with cancer my senior year changed all of that. My high school football days were over and I was in constant pain from the side effects of chemotherapy and treatment. I found relief from legally prescribed and necessary pain relief medication. This unknowingly planted the seed for an addiction that would haunt me for a decade.
Within a few years I lost my job, my fiancé, my home and my soul to the dark power of addiction. I wondered how I´d gone from being a starting quarterback and cancer survivor to a homeless drug addict.

good presentation, however he talked like alchohol and weed were what could have led him down hill, and it could have happened to anyone. he took a box of percocet cold after being sober for a while, obviously this was not a normal thing, and there were some other issues going on. overall it’s a touching story though he had a fulfilling life despite his hardships.

I really thought it was horrible. He kept saying we could relate to him more but he got addicted because he had a freak incident with cancer and painkillers he was prescribed. Is he suggesting cancer patients shouldn’t use doctor prescribed painkillers? If not, how did his story suggest anything about avoiding weed and alcohol? It didn’t!
